China Carbon Forum brings Mr. Chris Lenon to the ICC China National Committee

In a meeting arranged by China Carbon Forum, Mr Chris Lenon hands the ICC’s “Environmental Taxation Principles” to Secretary General Zhao Xiaodi of ICC China’s National Committee, on the very day, those Principles were published worldwide. Secretary General Zhao thanked for the visit, recognised the importance of environmental taxes, promised to transmit the document to  the CCOIC’s Environment and Energy Commission – and suggested that the topic might be discussed at the ICC G20 event planned for September in Beijing. Climate action beyond 2012: China and the World post-Durban was the seventh in the China Low Carbon Leadership Network 2011 event series jointly organized by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and China Carbon Forum (CCF). 76 representatives of government, NGOs, business and media joined GIZ and CCF to discuss outcomes of the 2011 UN Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa.

The speakers presented an extremely good cross-sectoral balance of perspectives on the outcomes of Durban; with most agreeing a ‘middle ground’ outcome had been reached. This balance of perspectives made way for a stimulating Q&A session with the audience, and many stayed on afterward to further network and discuss the topics of the evening. Continue reading

On the Move: Transport Concepts for Low Carbon Cities in China was the fifth in the China Low Carbon Leadership Network 2011 event series jointly organised by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the China Carbon Forum (CCF).

The November 10 meeting opened with an introduction to the spirit of cooperation between Germany and China, to balance natural environment and mobility needs of society, energy demand and threat of pollution, and economy and ecology at large. Continue reading

China Association of Plant Engineering Consultants (CAPEC), in collaboration with the Institution of Technology of the UK (IET), supported by China Carbon Forum (CCF), jointly organized the “2011 International Forum on Plant Engineering Consulting & Low Carbon Industry Development” on Nov. 2, 2011 in Beijing 21st Century Hotel, Beijing, China. Mr. Dimitri de Boer, Team Leader EU Programs, with the Investment & Technology Promotion Office-China, spoke on behalf of CCF. CCF renewed its commitment to climate change action by supporting the event in liaising with senior speakers on low carbon economy for the forum.

VIP Round table Discussion: How Can the EU and China Work Together on Climate Action?

A VIP round table discussion jointly organised between Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) & China Carbon Forum (CCF). Main issues: There was agreement that the EU and China share very much common ground, such as:

  • Scarcity of acceptable and reliable fossil fuels
  • Heavy emphasis on renewable energy
  • Willingness to take strong climate action
  • Strong technology focus, perhaps EU more on innovation and China more on production

China Carbon Forum Chairman Dr Anton Smitsendonk gave a dinner in the “Serene Courtyard” (in Beijing’s Zhengjue hutong, see an artistic rendering of the courtyard below)  in honor of Dr. Martin Lees, who for many years served  the Club of Rome as its Secretary General. Dr. Martin Lees was visiting Beijing this June for the annual UN summit.

A small reception to welcome Mr. Jacques Masurel (President) and Dr. Jerome Fouan (Nuclear Physicist) of French NGO Sauvons le Climat (Saving the Climate) was held on June 2, at the courtyard of Dr. Anton Smitsendonk (Chairman, China Carbon Forum). The event provided participants with an exciting opportunity to discuss the controversial issue of nuclear power, and its impact on climate change.
